'SOFIA' Ceramics by the Intonato brothers, Nicola and Giuseppe, is a company based in Caltagirone (Sicily, ITALY) that produces artistic majolica.
For several years, we have been dedicated to the handcrafted production of unique majolica pieces, decorated and shaped by hand following the classic color style of Caltagirone ceramics from all eras.

We study the country's artisan productions and select unique objects that represent the history of Caltagirone majolica, recognized worldwide for its artistic and cultural value.
Always adhering to old traditions, we give our creations our artistic touch, making them unique and inimitable, thus creating a new design within them. Caltagirone Majolica aims to be the meeting point of all these artistic-cultural expressions, a showcase through which to discover, appreciate, and even make these valuable and precious objects your own, to enjoy them over time in your dearest places.

We are inspired by the classic color style of Caltagirone (Italy) ceramics from all eras, made with unique glazes that recall the origins of the Eastern world where colors were produced by fusing glazes based on kaolin. It was therefore the Arabs who preserved this ancient Eastern recipe throughout history.

Always remembering that the first masters of glazing were undoubtedly the Japanese with their porcelains. Ceramics have been known since prehistoric times, and it is believed that their invention occurred only twice in human history: among Saharan populations and Japanese populations. From these places of origin, it then spread throughout the world.

Thanks to our consolidated experience over the years, we are now able to create new techniques during the finishing and firing stages. We select unique local artisan products that represent the true history of Caltagirone majolica, which is recognized worldwide for its true artistic and cultural value. While always remaining tied to old traditions, today we imbue our creations with our artistic flair, which makes them unique and inimitable, thus creating a new design that links classical and modern tradition.

All of this gives rise to our unique brand. SOFIA. Ceramica Sofia was thus born in 2002 when one of the brothers (Nicola), as a boy, after years of acquiring true craftsmanship in his city's workshops, decided with his only brother (GIUSEPPE) to start making ceramics in a small workshop of only 30 square meters.

Today, our ceramics are a window through which these precious and valuable objects can be known, appreciated, and made unique to be enjoyed over time.
